Halloween Costume Ideas

As September comes to an end, October begins which means for many it is time to start preparing for Halloween. Halloween is a holiday that can be enjoyed by people of all ages; from kid to adult. Stores start stocking up with candy, decorations, and most importantly the costumes. Halloween is a time where anyone of any age can dress up as anyone or anything that chose to be. With the internet forever growing, the infinite possibilities for creating the ultimate Halloween and finding that impeccable costume to purchase that goes above and beyond is out there.

An enjoyable experience is having family themed costumes and with the year there are costume characters that are as popular the movie or show they came from but then you have the same costume characters that are popular no matter what year it is or if they have just released a new movie or show. I have seen a family of 7 once have a Jim Carey theme for their Halloween costumes. Each child had their own costume from one of his movies; such as The Mask, Mr. Popper’s Penguins, Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber, and The Grinch to name a few. My family has decided on a Transformer theme for our Halloween costumes. As a practical planner, we always start looking close to two months in advance for our costumes; one to save on money as costumes are usually more inexpensive when it isn’t closer to the actual holiday and two because we need to know if we need to start planning on our do it yourself costume. My husband and son were quite lucky as they were able to find their costumes of Optimus Prime and Megatron as they are the two main guys that fight in most any Transformer movies, show, book, or comic book. My character I chose was Arcee; she is a popular character in some of the storyline, but at the same time she has normally taken a “back seat” in the story line in the live-action movies of recent. With a lack of popularity of an actual Arcee costume, I started scouring the internet for ways to make an Arcee costume. To me, some of the ways I found to be too complicated, so my next decision was to look at pictures of Arcee and get inspired. The route I decided to take was I purchased a Judy Jetson costume which looks closer to a futuristic outfit and is pink and I also purchased an Autobot patch to iron on. It isn’t much, but I took a difficult situation and found a positive spin to it.
A wonderful and important milestone in a lot of new parents or parents of a newborn is purchasing their baby’s first Halloween costume. A little piece of advice is depending on where you live and what stores are around choices may be very limited in deciding on the costume, so do your research before actually committing to an idea unless you are willing to travel the internet. Usually when you start browsing through an actual store, you will notice the normal baby costumes which are normally animal costumes; examples are a monkey, cat, a dog, or a lion. If you decide on going online to make baby costume purchase, your choices are expanded to TV/Movie characters, superhero or villain characters, or something as silly as food costumes.
A positive aspect about Halloween is that you don’t necessarily have to go to the store or go online to purchase an actual costume, you can grab a few things around your house or maybe purchase a few things around the store to save on money. This comes especially in handy when the character you want isn’t available. A couple of examples where you don’t have to buy your costume and just whip something together is you can go as a gypsy or Indiana Jones. Let’s begin with the quick and effortless gypsy costume; all you need is a long maxi skirt, a slightly long button shirt, a big and wide belt, hoop earrings, and boots. If you don’t have any of these bits and pieces of fashion already in your closet more than likely you can go to a local discount clothing store and find every piece waiting to be picked up by you. Now let’s jump over to Indiana Jones and the simple way to throw this costume together. The main things you will need are a tan or beige shirt, with khakis, work boots and the hat, but make sure that hat has the brim. If you want a more authentic look grab his infamous leather coat and his whip that is by his side when he isn’t using it for disarming the villains or for getting out of death-defying situations.
Whatever your Halloween pleasure just happens to be, go out there and explore the promises of finding that flawless costume is immeasurable. Don’t be afraid to go out there and take the risks to achieve your perfect Halloween experience.
